Shaurya Mittal

I'm currently a Mechanical Engineering & Computer Science student at Brown University, interested in the intersection between hardware and software. On that note, I'm also a Simons Researcher at Stony Brook University, where I test vision-language-action models like GR00T, SmolVLA, and BB-ACT to find their optimal use cases and improve efficiency (so far I've cut processing times for certain tasks by ~50%).

Previously, I led embedded systems & AI research at UC Irvine, building YOLO optimizations for Raspberry Pi (2nd @ OCSEF, CSEF Nominee); researched linguistic classification with LLMs and RNNs at USC Viterbi; and worked as a programming intern at MAD-learn, building a 23-project JavaScript curriculum used by thousands of students across 31 states.

Outside of work, I care about sustainability and how engineering and technology can improve our world — I founded EcoInnovators, an environmental technology incubation program now working with 8 schools and 200+ students. I was also a Learning Planet Youth Fellow and presented at the UN HQ. Reach out to me at shaurya_mittal@brown.edu.
